4 World Famous Structures with Unique Designs


The Structures are an important part of the society. While some have historical importance, others have religious values associated with them. Others are used for a miscellaneous purpose. Whenever we visit some far across places, the first thing that comes to our attraction is its famous structures.

  1. The Dancing House, Prague:

Nicknamed as “The Dancing House”, the Nationale Nederlanden building is situated in Prague. It is sometimes referred to as “Fred and Ginger”, named after two world-famous dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

The building has a unique dancing shape made up of 99 concrete panels, each with different dimension and shape. It has a restaurant, a gallery, a conference center and office premises. Most importantly, it has a terrace for sightseeing from where one can have a wonderful view of Prague.


  1. Milwaukee Art Museum, Wisconsin

The Milwaukee Art Museum is situated near Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. It was initially designed by Eero Saarinen as a war memorial in 1957. Then came the Kahler Building designed by David Kahler in 1975. And at last, Santiago Calatrava designed the Quadracci Pavilion in 2001. At shore level, the structure houses an atrium, a gallery space for exhibitions, an education center with 300 seats, and a gift shop. It also has a restaurant with 100 seats from where one can enjoy the view of the lake.

The design is inspired by many natural elements like moving steel louvers inspired by the wings of a bird. A cabled bridge with a mast inspired by a sailboat and a curving galleria inspired by a wave.



   3. Lotus Temple, New Delhi

The Lotus Temple is situated in New Delhi and it is a place of worship for Bahá'í. The place has a capacity of 2500 people with nine sides and nine doors. The whole temple resembles a lotus flower with 27 petal-like structures. The central hall of this temple is as high as 40m. It has the surface made from the white marble of Mount Pentelicus in Greece. Since its creation, it has become one of the most visited structures of the world.



  1. Cologne Cathedral, Cologne

It is the greatest Gothic cathedral in Germany and it is a seat of the Catholic Archbishop. Once it was the world’ tallest building with a high five-aisled basilica. Its construction started long back in 1248 which was stopped in 1473. The work was resumed only in the 19th century and it got completed in 1880.

It showcases several works of art. The exterior of the cathedral has seven feet gilded silver and jewels. The interior has Sarcophagus of the Magi which is a gilded sarcophagus. Three golden-crowned skulls are placed inside and it is believed that they belong to the Three Magi. The Gero Cross, the Chapel of the Virgin, and the Mandonna of Milan are the spots not to be missed while taking a tour of this masterpiece. It also has several master artwork of paintings.
